Commentary

The continuing dry weather and strong prices encouraged vendors to sell any excess stock to make the feed last as long as possible which resulted in agents at Warwick penning 1,241 head. All the regular export and feeder buyers attended along with southern restocker orders. Yearling steers to restockers sold to dearer trends with the yearling heifers firm on last week. Extra support from a southern export buyer lifted prices on all heavy cows.

Light weight yearling steers to background sold from 486c to 532c/kg. Yearling steers over 200kg sold from 470c to 620c/kg. Yearling steers over 280kg to restockers sold from 524c to 594c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed sold from 520c to 572c/kg. Heavy yearling steers to feed sold from 516c to 534c/kg. Yearling heifers in the 200-280kg range to background sold from 400c to 546c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed sold from 390c to 500c/kg. Heavy yearling heifers to the wholesale meat trade sold to 496c/kg.

A small sample of bullocks to processors sold from 460c to 475c/kg. Grown heifers to processors sold from 418c to 444c/kg. Light weight cows to processors gained 14c and sold from 300c to 367c/kg. Good heavy score 3 and 4 cows to processors lifted by 7c and sold from 363c to 420c/kg. Light weight bulls to restockers sold from 406c to 450c/kg. Heavy bulls to processors sold from 390c to 497c/kg.
