For the very last Warrnambool cattle market after the council decision for the selling centre to close. A very sad day for all connections and the community involved, the facility opened in 1970 after moving from Swan Reserve in the township of Warrnambool.

Agents yarded 860 cattle of mixed quality with over half the yarding consisting of cows, a full field of buyers and extra on lookers to witness the sale, the market was firm to 20c dearer in places from last week’s levels. Young cattle sold firm to 10c dearer in places for the better quality, more heavy grown cattle were offered to be 20c dearer in places while heavy cows were to 5c better and bulls held mostly firm with a few cheaper sales throughout the yarding.

Vealers sold from 410c to 481c to the trade and restockers paid from 220c to 448c/kg, with a wide range of quality offered. Yearlings to the trade sold 350c to 462c with feeders paying from 250c to 446c/kg. Manufacturing dairy steers sold from 246c to 360c/kg

Heavy grown steers sold from 340c to 438c, grown heifers made from 350c to 434c for the better-quality types and dairy heifers sold from 162c to 340c/kg. Heavy beef cows made from 290c to 350c, medium weight cows were from 230c to 300c and dairy cows sold from 180c to 310c/kg. Beef bulls from 330c to 385c and the dairy bulls to 318c/kg
