Commentary

The export market experienced a notable price correction across the cow and bullock classes, largely influenced by bigger numbers and a shorter trading week. Despite all buyers attending the sale, participation, especially in the export market, was minimal. Quality varied, with only a few in prime condition suitable for domestic buyers.

Feeder steer prices showed fluctuations, but overall rates improved as the sale progressed. Medium weight feeder steers, ranging from 400 to 480kg, fetched prices between 276c/kg and 372c/kg, marking an 11c/kg increase. Conversely, medium weight feeder heifers witnessed a decrease of 24c/kg, though additional buyers entered the market midway. They were sold within the range of 220c/kg to 320c/kg.

In the export sale, there was a scarcity of active buyers, leading to a significant price decline of 30c/kg to 47c/kg. Heavy steers and bullocks were traded at prices ranging from 240c/kg to 310c/kg. Heavy cows experienced a price correction of 26c/kg to 34c/kg during the sale with prices lifting late in the day. However, lighter weight cows received support from restockers, mitigating the extent of price drops.
