Commentary
Cows realising in excess of $3000 was a highlight as a vast improvement in weather conditions enabled Singleton agents to yard 826 cattle up slightly on last week. The condition of the weaners improved somewhat, there were a handful of yearlings, heavy steers and heifers and around 70 cows penned. All the regular buyers at the rail with added re-stocker and processor demand.
The market was “on song” from the word go with light re-stocker steer weaners improving by 19c/kg selling from 340c to 492c/kg and averaging around 433c/kg, medium weights averaged 461c/kg and those over 330kg sold from 424c to 474c/kg. Similar story in the weaner heifer department selling 33c/kg dearer 260c to 400c/kg with a handful of B muscles selling up to 424c/kg and prime types to the butchers making to 410c/kg.
Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed trending upwards making from 270c to 452c/kg. Heavy grown Bullocks selling from 350c to 384c/kg. A major Southern processor entered into the fray in the Cow market coming off a low base last week to ignite the heavy prime 3 and 4 scores by 38c to 48c/kg selling from 290c to a top of 368c/kg.
