Commentary

The influx of cattle up and down the eastern seaboard continued unabated this week as agents yarded 1113 head. Quality was very mixed with some excellent pens of Limousin and Charolais infused supplementary fed calves on offer whilst the secondary cattle were very plain and perhaps not performing to their expected weight for age ratio. Most of the regular buyers were at the rail but competing with much less urgency than shown last week.

Re-stocker steer weaners 50c to 80c/kg cheaper 215c to 376c/kg, over 330kg topping at 356c/kg. Re-stocker heifer weaners 30c to 60c/kg off the pace trading from 175c to 284c/kg whilst the B muscle supplementary fed butcher calves over 330kg made up to 320c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers breed dependent 248c to 356c/kg to be 26c/kg cheaper, over 400kg showing positive trends 290c to 360c/kg with the bulk of these being straight Angus.

Heavy grown 4 and 6 tooth steers up around 500kg destined back to the paddock also slightly dearer 268c to 310c/kg. Light 2 score cows considerably cheaper 120c to 196c/kg whilst the heavy 3 and 4 score cows followed suit making from 190c to a top of 228c/kg.
