Commentary

A surge of numbers saw Singleton agents yard 1258 cattle, quality was generally high with bigger lines and pen-fulls of weaners and yearlings, cow numbers spiked to around 200. All the regular buyers were at the rail with the market fluctuating throughout.

The frantic activity of last week to secure steer calves not to the same levels as there were very few light steer calves on offer today in comparison and they traded 18c/kg cheaper selling from 420c to 538c/kg. Heavier types over 330kg also trending cheaper making from 430c to 566c/kg. Light heifer calves firm to slightly easier and sold from 355c to 448c/kg with medium and heavy weight heifer calves enjoying rises of 7c to 17c/kg trading between 380c and 442c/kg.

Superb runs of cross bred and straight bred yearling steers and heifers saw medium and heavy yearling steers attract strong competition to be 10c to 16c/kg dearer and more in places to both re-stock and feed and sold from 400c to 590c/kg. Heavy yearling heifers jumped 26c/kg averaging 426c/kg.

The few grown steers, Bullocks and heifers to the processors all selling cheaper and made from 330c to 440c/kg. 2 score cows dropped 24c/kg making from 240c to 386c/kg whilst the prime heavy 4 score cows eased 8c/kg and traded between 400c and 430c/kg.
