Commentary

Lamb numbers were steady but the quality continues to slip. There was only a limited number of well finished lambs with the bulk lacking weight and fat cover. There were plenty of lambs under 18kg. the market sold to stronger trends.

Restocking lambs sold from $66 to $183/head and the 2 score processing lambs $125 to $200/head averaging 1050c/kg. The trade lambs showed a lot of variation in the pens and average firm selling from $214 to $264/head. The limited supply of heavy lambs were $10 to $20/head stronger with lambs 24 to 26kg selling from $272 to $284/head, heavy weights to 30kg ranged from $290 to $340/head and extra heavy lambs topped at $380/head and carcass prices ranged from 1040c to 1130c/kg.

Mutton number eased and the quality remains mixed. Heavy mutton was firm to a little softer and the medium weights trade mutton was $5 to $7 dearer. Heavy crossbred ewes reached $238 and Merino wethers made to $237/head and most ranged between 640c and 720c/kg.
