Commentary

Scone agents yarded 856 cattle, 140 less than last week, quality perhaps not up to the overall standard and there were some re-stocker and feeder orders not operating this week due to the extreme heat. Market conditions resulted in cheaper transactions for most in part, although some brighter categories did appear.

Light steer calves considerably cheaper topping at 490c/kg and averaging around 450c/kg conversely light heifer calves rose 9c/kg selling between 348c and 414c/kg, over 330kg to the local butcher trade made from 432c to 440c/kg.

There was an outstanding run of one mark vendor bred Charolais yearling steers under 400kg mainly destined to the grain bin and sold from 474c to 494c/kg averaging around 485c/kg. Other British bred types sold from 430c to 482c/kg. Over 400kg to the processors paid from 442c to 485c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers little change 362c to 404c/kg and the trade paid up to 448c/kg. Over 400kg yearling heifers to process sold from 390c to 446c/kg.

Around 190 cows offered local re-stockers active on the better bred 2 scores selling from 262c to 346c/kg, heavy 3 and 4 scores slipped 8c/kg trading between 338c and 387c/kg. Best heavy Bull topped at 384c/kg.
