Commentary

Numbers nearly doubled as Scone agents penned 938 fair to good quality cattle. Weaner calves dominated the yarding, not many to suit the local butcher trade and 100 cows were offered.

Light steer calves couldn’t quite keep up to last weeks rates selling between 456c and 684c/kg to be 8c/kg cheaper whilst a bigger selection of the over 280kg medium weights saw them sell 33c/kg dearer making from 564c to 660c/kg. Light heifer calves improved 11c/kg sell in from 380c to 552c/kg whilst the best B muscle heifer calf to the local butcher trade topped at 582c/kg weighing 410kg.

A marked improvement in quality of yearling steers saw eager lot feeder orders compete hard and they sold up to 50c/kg dearer in places trading from 510c to 640c/kg. B muscle yearling heifers to the trade sold from 538c to 568c/kg. Isolated grown steers to process sold from 430c to 450c/kg similarly grown heifers made from 450c to 466c/kg.

Lighter 2 score cows to both process and re-stock sold from 330c to 368c/kg, smaller frame 3 score cows under 520kg improved by 7c/kg making from 360c to 408c/kg. Heavy 3 and 4 score cows were firm to 9c/kg better off trading between 388c and 418c/kg. Best heavy B muscle Bull topped at 390c/kg.
