Commentary
Grain-assisted yearling heifers selling to local trade buyers were the highlight of today’s Scone cattle market where agents yarded 597 head—around 200 fewer than last week. With not all regular buyers operating and a larger proportion of heavier steer and heifer calves on offer, the market generally struggled to match the strong rates achieved the previous week.
Light steer calves either side of firm selling between 450c and 612c/kg whilst light heifer calves declined by 18c/kg trading between 440c and 506c/kg, over 280kg faired a little better making from 508c to 534c/kg.
Medium weight yearling steers to the lot feeders remained steady 484c to 596c/kg with similar yearling heifers easing 25c/kg and traded from 460c to 546c/kg. Outstanding grain assisted yearling heifers over 400kg to the trade were 17c/kg dearer and they made from 570c to 588c/kg.
Around 100 cows in the offering saw lighter 2 score types hold firm and up to 14c/kg dearer to both re-stockers and processors selling between 266c and 356c/kg. With not all operators competing saw the better covered 3 and 4 score heavy cows 4c to 25c/kg off the pace and they made between 340c and 422c/kg.
