Commentary

Numbers reduced substantially as agents offered 5,200 lambs and 2,100 sheep. Lamb quality was generally fair to good however the young unshorn lambs are now showing signs of dryness. Older shorn lambs were offered in larger numbers and these were generally of good quality. The usual trade and processor buyers faced some stiff competition from the specialty butchers as prices lifted to range from $5 to $20 dearer.
Hoggets also lifted by up to $25/head under strong butcher competition. Sheep quality this week was mixed with prices here $5 to $10 dearer.

Extremely light young lambs ranged from $24 to $72 as light lambs sold from $68 to $132. Light trade weights sold from $114 to $166 with trade weights fetching $152 to $204. Heavy weights ranged from $200 to $210 with the few extra heavy weights selling from $175 to $258/head. Extremely light older lambs ranged from $61 to $73 with light weights fetching $50 to $134. Light trade weights sold from $140 to $164 with trade weights ranging from $170 to $195 and heavy weights $200 to $229/head. Light hoggets sold from $42 to $82 with the balance selling from $110 to $223/head. Light ewes sold from $30 to $55, medium weights ranged from $65 to $95 with heavy weights fetching $95 to $140/head. A small number of mostly heavy wethers sold from $130 to $160/head. Rams sold from $15 to $20/head.
