Commentary

Nutrien held their third weaner sale for the Autumn at Powranna on Thursday when they yarded 4,243 mainly weaner cattle. The quality was again very good with most being Angus and Herefords. Competition came from the Northwest, Northeast and Northern Midlands plus interstate buyers who bought around 40% of the total.
The weaner steers sold to strong local and interstate competition and were fully firm to $100 dearer than a fortnight ago. Heavy weaner steers (330+ kg) made $880 to $1,200/head (av. 315c/kg), medium (280-330 kg) $820 to $1,060 (315c), light (200-280 kg) $500 to $900 (310c) and very small (under 200kg) $250 to $640 (275c).
Most heifers were cheaper than last sale with the vast majority averaging around 200c/kg liveweight.
The few heavy heifers made $540 to $800 (210c), medium $460 to $700 (200c), light $390 to $600 (200c) and very small $140 to $400 (165c).
