Naracoorte Cattle Report
Report Date: 31st March 2026
Total Yarding: 466
Commentary
Smaller offering of 466 cattle, influenced by the looming Easter break and also the weaker price trend for cattle recorded at other markets in recent days. Quality was very mixed with a lot of crossbred and plainer types in the steer and heifer sections. Price results were generally softer across the yarding, but dependant on quality agents said. The cow market was cheaper by up to 10c/kg and more in places with plainer and light weight females the most affected. The sale top was 492c/kg for a young Limousin heifer which weighed 325kg.
A blanket price range of 420c to 466c/kg covered the bulk of the steer and heifer sales in this yarding, with just a few better shaped and finished types selling higher. Saleyard data shows the 182 steers sold averaged 443c/kg after selling to a top of 500c for the best young feeders, and down to 240c for secondary crossbred steers. The 82 heifers sold averaged 425c from a spread of 336c to 492c/kg for the top priced vealer.
Just over 100 cows were penned. Bidding held up the best on the heavier pens weighing over 600kg which were in fresh to prime condition at 360c to 400c/kg to average 380c/kg.. The leaner cows in the 500-600kg weight bracket sold from 330c to 387c to average a ballpark 363c/kg. Very plain cows 275c to 311c/kg. There was a reasonable number of bulls in the yarding, including some younger types purchased by feeders at 320c to 380c/kg. Best heavy bulls to 405c/kg.
