Commentary
High yielding yearlings to suit the trade making 564c, heavy grown heifers topping at 488c, and prime cows reaching 429c/kg, were the highlights of the 2076 fair to outstanding quality cattle, an increase of 450. Half of the yarding was made up young cattle attracting strong competition from the restockers, along with some good pens of feeder steers. There were some excellent runs of yearling heifers returning to the paddock or feedlot, and there were some good pens of heavy grown cattle. There was a full field of buyers, resulting in a very strong market.
The limited supply of trade yearlings were considerably dearer selling from 455c to 564c/kg. Feeder steers were up to 12c dearer ranging from 408c to 514c, and the heifers to feed or returning to the paddock were significantly dearer, topping at 475c, to average 454c/kg. Weaners suiting the restockers continue to sell to dearer trends, with the the steers making from 340c to 584c, and the heifers made from 240c to 488c/kg.
Heavy grown steers gained 5c, selling from 384c to 492c, and the heifers were up to 18c dearer, topping at 488c/kg. Lighter and leaner cows were mostly firm ranging from 240c to 378c, and the high yielding heavy prime cows were 7c better, reaching 429c to average 396c/kg. Heavy bulls to process ranged from 342c to 410c/kg.
