Commentary

Numbers were up for a total of 15,616 sheep and lambs at Katanning. A better quality yarding dominated by lambs. Prices trended up on all categories with processors competitive on prime lines while feeder buyers pushed good framed store lines. Lighter weight and store lambs gained $10/head overall while trade weight lambs gained $20 and heavy lambs $10 selling to a top of $220/head. Mutton was the biggest mover with prime medium and heavy weight ewes up $20 on last sale selling to a top of $210/head.

Lambs weighing under 16kg cwt sold from $44 to $130 while heavier lambs were up at $100 to $160/head. Trade weight lambs gained on quality selling from $156 to $190 and heavy weight lambs sold to $220/head. Ram lambs made from $130 to $169 for heavy weights.

Xbred hoggets made $158 to $181 for heavy weights.

Light weight Merino wether hoggets ranged from $70 to $153 with a fleece, medium and heavy weights sold to $163 /head. Merino ewe hoggets returned from $70 to $125 for light weights while heavier prime ewes sold from $130 to $176/head.

Store mutton made from $40 to $120 while prime medium weight ewes sold from $140 to $195 and heavy weight ewes over 30kg cwt made from $169 to $210/head. Mature wethers sold to $108 for store lines while prime wethers returned from $143 to $213/head. Mature rams sold from $20 to $130/head.
