Total Yarding: 2,077

Commentary

Numbers increased again this week for a yarding of 2,077 head which was up by 577. The yarding consisted of some good runs of well bred weaner steers and heifers, and there was also an improved offering of yearlings,however there was some plainer cattle through the sale.

Competition was much stronger from restockers and feeder buyers this week with good lines of weaner steers selling 40c dearer ranging from 340c to 490c with the medium weight steers averaging 421c/kg. Restocker weaner heifers were slightly dearer selling to 346c/kg. Restocker and background yearling steers gained 30c to 40 cents toping at 458c/kg. Heavy feeder steers were 5c to 10c dearer selling from 346c to 438c while feeder heifers were up to 10c dearer depending on weight and quality, ranging from 316c to 380c/kg.

The yarding of export cattle consisted of a few more pens of grown steers and heifers, while there was a good yarding of cows. Strong buyer competition resulted in grown steers to process selling from 290c to 366c to gain 20c while feeder steers toped at 398c/kg. Grown heifers sold to 360c heifers to feed sold to 386c/kg. The yarding of cows consisted of several runs of heavy high yielding cows, along with a fair penning of plainer grade cows. Process buyers were keen to acquire numbers resulting in 2 and 3 score cows selling 6c to 8c dearer, while heavy 4 score cows were 25c to 30c/kg dearer. The 2 score cows sold from 244c to 266c, while 3 score cows averaged 270c/kg. Heavy 4 score cows ranged from 280c and reached a top price of 322c and averaged 307c/kg.
