Commentary
Cattle numbers at Inverell lifted by 637 head to 1,765. A mixed quality line up of young cattle came forward with the steer portion not up to the standard of the previous week. The export cattle were dominated by good heavy weight cows. Buyer attendance was good with additional southern operators in the market plus the return of a regular buyer. Young cattle experienced only quality related price changes. Southern export operators provided the most strength on the good heavy cows and lifted prices by 12c/kg and more in places.
Weaner steers made to 456c to average from 387c to 417c/kg. Weaner heifers averaged 328c and made to 354c/kg. Yearling steers under 330kg to restockers made to 452c to average 403c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged from 403c to 410c with sales to 434c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged from 390c to 398c and sold to 430c/kg with the very heavy lines pushed on by processors. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged from 345c to 352c with sales to 380c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed also made to 380c to average from 356c to 366c/kg.
Heavy grown steers to export processors made to 384c and a handful of bullocks made to 388c/kg. Grown heifers sold to 360c to average 350c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows experienced strong demand from processors as well as restockers and made to 270c to average 265c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 285c/kg. Good heavy weight cows in the largest numbers made to a top of 340c to average 323c/kg some returning $2,541/head. Heavy weight bulls made to 342c/kg.
