Commentary

Lamb numbers eased and the quality was good with the bulk of the yarding trade or heavy lambs in very good condition, There was a reduced number of store lambs and a few secondary trade weights. There were most of the usual buyers operating and although the sale started slow it picked up momentum and the good prime lambs held firm but the lighter and secondary trade weights were back $10 to $15/head.

Restocking lambs to 18kg sold from $156 to $245/head. The trade weighs to 24kg mostly sold from $250 to $318/head and ranged from 1180c to 1260c/kg. the heavy 24 to 26kg lambs sold from $298 to $330/head or 1190c/kg and lambs to 30kg $306 to $352/head averaging 1160c/kg. Extra heavy lambs reached $405/head and extra heavy lambs averaged 1070c/kg. The best price for a hogget reached $298/head.

Mutton numbers were similar and the quality was very mixed. Prices were stronger especially on the lighter and medium weight mutton. With gains of $10 to $15/head. Medium weight ewes sold from $186 to $260 and heavy crossbred ewes reached $380, Merinos reached $345/head. Most ranged between 930c and 1020c/kg cwt.
