Commentary
There was a drop of 273 head in the yarding at Emerald sale yesterday with 1794 head on offer. Cattle came to hand from the usual areas. There was again a large offering of processor cows although they lacked some of the quality and finish of past sales. Prices eased as a result and light weight heifers in plain condition were hard to move.
The few light weight yearling steers sold to 399c/kg to average 377c/kg for best bred pens. Medium weight lines reached 355c/kg and averaged 300c to 327c/kg for well-bred lines. Light weight yearling heifers were difficult to move – selling from 178c/kg average to 260c/kg, depending on the quality. Medium weight pens also saw decreases in most averages, selling from 195c to 256c/kg.
A few grown steers to feed sold to 327c/kg whilst a few bullocks sold to processors from 200c/kg to 255c/kg. Grown heifers to trade buyers made from 194c to 231c/kg average .
Prime cows struggled to reach a top of 215c/kg and averaged 192c/kg. Heavy bulls averaged 201c/kg to processors and 205c/kg to feed and livex.
