Commentary

The first sale for the new financial year for Dubbo found extra lambs with numbers lifting by 8500 for a yarding of 27680 lambs. It was a fair to good quality yarding with a good selection of trade and heavy weight lambs along with good numbers of Merinos. There were also the expected plainer types in from the far west. A full field of buyers were in attendance and operating including the return of a major local export processor.

Lightweight lambs to the processors were $10 dearer with the 12kg to 18kg 2 scores selling from $115 to $190/head. Trade lambs were $7 to $12 dearer with the 20kg to 24kg lambs selling from $200 to $297/head to average between 1080c and 1125c/kg cwt. Heavy weight lambs were $6 to $10 dearer with the 24kg to 30kg lambs selling from $262 to $337 to average between 1090c and 1135c/kg cwt. Heavy weight lambs over 30kg sold from $334 to $384/head. Merino lambs were up to $20 dearer with trade weights selling from $155 to $261 while heavy weight Merinos sold to $290/head. Hoggets were dearer selling to $247/head.

There were 8540 mixed mutton yarded where the lightweight ewes were around firm and the better heavy weight sheep were up to $15/head dearer. Merino ewes sold from $80 to $260 while crossbred ewes sold from $125 to $264/head. White Dorper ewes sold to $265 and Merino wethers sold from $105 to $203/head. Carcass prices ranged from 680c to 730c/kg cwt.
