Commentary

Numbers eased and the quality was fair to good. Prime trade cattle were in short supply with the bulk of the cattle going to feeder orders. There was an absences of weight through the yarding and there was even a limited supply of prime heavy grown steers and heifers. The cow runs also featured a lot of lighter and plainer cows. The market sold to mixed trends with weaners cheaper and feeders firm to dearer for the heifers and sold to softer trends as the steers got heavier. A limited supply of good trade cattle also had increases. The grown cattle and cows sold to softer trends.

Weaner steers sold from 338c to 388c and heifers 210c to 288c/kg. Yearling steers to feed were firm on the medium weights and 15c cheaper on heavy feeders with crossbreds bringing the average back, medium weights sold from 305c to 360c and heavy weights 280c to 355c/kg. Medium weight feeder heifers were 15c to 18c dearer on the British bred lines and the Bos Indicus lines were firm to cheaper. Prices ranged from 240c to 314c/kg. Prime trade cattle were 10c to 15c better, steers ranged from 300c to 336 and heifers 280c to 319c/kg.

The limited supply of prime heavy grown steers and bullocks were back 10c selling from 260c to 308c and the prime heavy grown heifers lost 25c with most selling from 230c to 250c with a pen that reached 298c/kg. Cows fell 25c to 35c with the heavy 3 and 4 score cows 205c to 232c and medium weights ranged from 148c to 212c/kg.
