Commentary

Interim Report. Despite the ongoing dry weather, numbers at Dalby fell by 1,308 head to a yarding of 6,905. A good lineup of 1,630 cows and 356 bulls was penned. The yarding also included a large contingent of 683 head from New South Wales, along with a fair sample of 428 head from far western Queensland. Export buyer attendance was good with one additional operator in the cow section. A fair panel of feed and trade buyers were active in the market.

Prices for heavy weight yearling steers to feed at the time of this interim report have stabilised. Yearling heifers to feed continued to meet a cheaper market. Bullocks to export processors sold to a dearer trend. Prices for cows stabilised in places with plain condition lines receiving stronger support.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 500c and averaged 442c/kg. A small selection of medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 300c to average 287c while the heavy weight portion made to 406c and averaged 340c/kg.

A limited supply of bullocks made to 436c to average 433c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 265c and made to 286c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 307c and the best of the heavy weight cows made to 343c and averaged 328c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 390c/kg.
