Commentary
Cattle numbers increased to 525 penned, quality improved with cows representing over half the yarding. All the usual buying group were on the rail with an extra processor bidding in a strong market across all categories. Young cattle sold to 30c dearer for better types with good weight and shape and to 20c/kg stronger for the plainer lots. Grown heifers sold to 40c dearer in places, manufacturing steers gained 15c to 25c/kg. Heavy cows sold well gaining 25c while the medium and lighter weights sold 20c to 35c dearer and more in places. Heavy bulls gained 20c to 30c and the younger well bred bulls gained to 60c/kg however the quality improved.
A limited offering of young cattle sold from 352c to 480c for the better quality and 260c to 318c/kg for the plainer types. Grown heifers sold from 356c to 482c for the better quality and from 260c to 322c/kg for the secondary types. Manufacturing crossbred steers sold from 290c to 330c to the trade and feeders made from 340c to 358c, dairy steers were limited and made from 110c to 330c/kg.
Heavy cows sold to the trade from 280c to 374c, with one pen of really clean younger heifer type cows sold to 400c/kg. Medium and light weight cows made from 248c to 330c, while feeders and restockers made 266c to 312c for the better quality and to 240c for the plainer lots. Heavy bull sold from 325c to 346c, and the lighter and young bulls made from 178c to 420c/kg.
