Commentary
Agents penned 354 cattle, quality remained similar with the yarding consisting of mostly plainer types, a very limited offering of better quality was penned. All the usual buying group were on the rail in a much softer market over most weights and grade, bidding was more subdued across all categories. Young cattle sold firm for the better quality, while the plainer lots slipped 30c/kg and more in places. Grown steers again too few to quote, grown heifers sold to 40c/kg cheaper. Heavy cows slipped 30c for the better lines, while the plainer lots were up to 50c/kg cheaper in places. Heavy bulls sold 30c to 40c/kg cheaper.
Young steers and heifers mostly sold to feeders and restockers made from 400c to 500c for the better quality lines, while plainer types ranged from 238c to 396c/kg. Grown steers made 400c to 432c, grown heifers to the trade sold from 334c to 420c/kg, while feeder types sold from 186c to 380c/kg. Manufacturing crossbred steers made 256c to 344c, and the dairy portion sold 300 to 350c/kg.
Heavy cows to the trade sold from 285c to 376c, medium weight cows made 250c to 330c, light weights sold to 248c and feeder types ranged from 222c to 340c, with a few pens of clean heifer types selling from 360c to 388c/kg. Heavy bulls sold from 334c to 380c/kg.
