Commentary

Numbers increased significantly and quality improved for the trade and heavy lambs which were showing top condition. The trade and heavy weights were in the majority while the lighter grades were limited in supply. All the buyers were operating and competition was very strong with the market moving back to a dearer trend.

Light lambs to the processors sold from $183 to $218 up $4/head. Medium trade weight lambs held firm while heavies were $15/head dearer and averaged 995c to 1060c/kg cwt. Heavy trade 23 to 24kg sold from $230 to $270/head.

Heavy weight lambs were $11 to $30/head dearer and averaged 1060c to 1120c/kg cwt. Heavy weights sold from $260 to $286 while extra heavy weight lambs sold from $291 to a top of $365/head.

Mutton numbers increased and quality improved with prices lifting $30/head in places. Heavy first cross ewes sold from $170 to $302/head. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $228 to $230/head.
