Commentary

Agents penned an excellent quality yarding with numbers jumping by approximately 4000 sheep and lambs. A large portion of the yarding were well finished types recently shorn and processors both domestic and export were all hanging on the rail. Domestic processors were notably eager to fill orders with not all able to keep up with the pace, some extreme sales hitting over $13/kg cwt. All weights and grades were on offer across the sale with dearer trends in all categories.

Trade lambs were well supplied with some good finish down to the light trade weights. Heavy trade lambs 23 to 26kg sold between $263 and $330/head to average between $11 and $12/kg cwt. Heavy lambs attracted some strong competition from all buyers with domestic operators stepping up the weight. Lambs sold between $304 and $$347/kg to average $336/head. Additional weight across the extra heavy export types over 30kg was on offer with prices reaching $420/head for one outstanding pen close to 40kg. Merino lambs were well supplied with heavy trade weights selling between $226 and $300/head. Light lambs to the processor were limited selling between $144 and $185/head.

All weights and grades were available across the mutton run with prices mostly firm. Heavy and extra heavy Merino ewes sold between $177 and $240/head and Crossbreds reached $245/head. Trade mutton sold between $138 and $158/head.
