Commentary

Numbers declined with 4750 less lambs and 1450 less sheep. Quality was mostly good with weights and grades to suit all buying types. Competition was steady across both export and domestic lines with restocker’s taking secondary types. All buyers were present and operating in a softer market.

Heavy trade lambs 23 to 26kg slipped $15 selling between $254 and $308/head to average 1132c/kg cwt
Heavy lambs also slipped $15 making between $286 and $334/head. Extra heavy export types eased $8 making between $324 and $365/head averaging 1020c/kg cwt.

Merino lambs were well supplied, and the quality was very good with heavier type’s supplementary fed. A single pen of heavy lambs sold for $320/head with heavy trade selling between $255 and $299/head. Restocker’s operated between $214 and $223/head for light lambs and with competition from processors driving the odd sale up by $25. Unfinished trade weight lambs sold in a softer market with processors standing back and restocker’s operating up to $269/head for unfinished types suitable to turnout.

Heavy mutton continues to be well supplied and there is plenty of demand from processors. Extra heavy Crossbred ewes jumped by $40 selling between $265 and $328/head averaging 808c/kg cwt. Trade sheep $9 dearer making between $158 and $211/head.
