Commentary

Cattle numbers fell short of the draw by 1000 head, with agents offering 5800. All regular buyers attended the sale and were active at times. However, competition was inconsistent, leading to a market correction of 20c/kg, with occasional more pronounced declines.

In the trade sale, prime vealers were limited in number and sold between 290c to 362c/kg. Trade heifers fetched prices up to 295c, while the steer portion ranged from 328c to 335c/kg with all grain assisted. Feedlot buyers retreated from the higher prices of the previous week, resulting in a 20c price fall for medium weights, ranging from 270c to 367c/kg, with some occasional sales reaching 374c/kg. Medium-weight feeder heifers faced weakened demand, slipping by 5c to 9c. predominantly selling between 250c to 324c/kg. Light weight weaner steers struggled to attract many buyers resulting in a price drop of 89c, the bulk selling from 262c to 365c/kg.

In the export market, there were sporadic glimpses of price spurts, although some buyers remained subdued. Heavy steers gained 12c, selling from 250c to 336c/kg, while bullocks lost 10c to 15c, trading between 255c to 325c/kg.
The cow market struggled as numbers outpaced demand, with caution observed from both processors and restockers during bidding. Heavy cows sold 21c cheaper, ranging from 215c to 258c/kg, while leaner types fetched between 190c to 227c/kg.
