Commentary
There were varying price trends in a slightly smaller yarding. While the usual buyers were present at the sale, not all were active or fully engaged. Quality remained mixed, with some standout grain-assisted yearlings among the offerings.
Trade heifer prices displayed some volatility, slipping by 25c and trading between 244c and 326c/kg. Trade steers eased back by 5c, selling within the range of 270c to 352c/kg. Secondary yearling heifers were keenly sought by a number of buyers helping push prices higher. However, prices for feeder steers experienced a decline of 20c/kg or more in isolated sales. Medium-weight feed heifers saw an increase in prices, ranging from 275c to 311c/kg, marking a gain of 10c/kg.
Heavy steers intended for processors were in limited supply, trading between 270 and 305c/kg. Bullocks saw steady competition, holding firm at prices ranging from 292c to 335c/kg. Heavy heifers experienced a decline of 30 cents, with prices ranging from 248c to 324 cents/kg. In the cow sale, buyers showed keen interest in bids below 248c/kg, with only limited sales exceeding this mark. On average, cow prices saw a decrease of 20c to 30c, with heavy cows selling between 230c and 254c/kg, and a single isolated sale reaching 272c/kg. The middle range of leaner types sold between 128c and 212c/kg.
Bull prices also dipped, decreasing by 21c and trading between 208c and 215c/kg.
