Commentary

A drop in numbers today with a total of 693 in both the veal and liveweight sales. There was a fairly even representation of all categories with some good lines of grown steers and heifers selling well along with prime cows and slaughter bulls. Younger cattle in feedlot specs were holding values however even with some fresh faces in the buyer gallery plainer tail end calves lacking fat cover and breeding regardless of sex struggled to sell making 10c to 120ckg.

Vealer steers showing reasonable fat cover and condition ranged from 150c to 298c while better condition vealer heifers made 120c to 232c/kg. Yearling steers Local or pastoral showing fat cover suited to feedlots up to 330kg returned 188c to 280c while heavier steers sold from 160c to 246c/kg. The same story with yearling heifers from all areas showing feeder potential under 330kg were selling from 126c to 190c while heavier heifers realized 170c to 214c/kg

Grown steers ranged from 154c to 222c while grown heifers sold from 160c to 208c/kg. light plain pastoral cows started at 40c up to 120c with bigger frames while medium cows made 130c to 180c and prime heavy cows topped at 188c/kg.

Shipping bulls within Live export specs returned 120c to 212c while slaughter bulls were still selling well making 166c to 210c/kg.
