Commentary

There were approximately 1750 export and 380 young cattle penned representing an increase of 270 head week-on-week. An export processor rejoined the regular buyers after a long absence with most showing more demand in a dearer market. Quality improved in the grown and remained mixed in the young cattle. Well finished trade cattle sold up to 20c/kg dearer while there was more feeder competition for secondary lots. Manufacturing steers gained 20c to 25c/kg. Grown steers and bullocks kicked 20c to 30c/kg. Heavy grown heifers showing good finish lifted 25c/kg. Cows sold from 15c to 25c/kg dearer. Heavy bulls held firm.

Vealers sold from 243c to 380c/kg. Yearling trade steers made between 290c and 374c with feeder lots between 240c and 300c/kg. Yearling heifers to the trade sold between 256c and 352c/kg. Grown steers made from 312c to 330c/kg. Bullocks sold from 310c to 335c/kg. Heavy grown heifers made between 270c and 316c/kg.

Heavy Friesian manufacturing steers sold between 218c and 265c with the crossbred portion between 245c and 314c/kg. Most light and medium weight cows made from 130c to 234c/kg. Heavy weight cows sold mostly from 182c to 258c/kg. Heavy bulls made between 214c and 264c/kg.
