Commentary

Lamb supply was slightly less and quality improved with the trade and heavy weights showing good condition and there were mainly trade and heavy weights penned. Store and light grades were limited in number and all the buyers were operating and competition was strong resulting in a dearer market.

Medium and heavy trade weight lambs were $2 to $7/ head dearer and averaged from 650c to 675c/kg cwt with the heavy trade selling from $154 to $175/head. Heavy weight lambs were $8 to $15/head dearer and averaged from 660c to 695c/kg cwt. Heavy weight lambs sold from $172 to $176 while extra heavy weights sold from $181 to a top of $246.20/head.

Mutton numbers fell for a limited yarding and prices were stronger. Heavy first cross ewes sold from $85 to $95/head or 265c/kg cwt.
