Commentary

There were approximately 3,900 head penned representing an increase of 2,400 from the sale of a fortnight ago. Quality improved with large lines of well regarded breeders calves on offer and no dairy cattle. The buyers gallery held a large crowd and while many were onlookers there was reasonable competition. A number of feedlot orders were operating on suitable grades of cattle including several pens of EU accredited calves which remained in the program. Prices were similar to the previous sale for heavy well bred calves however as the sale moved into the lighter weight lines competition slipped away. Hereford calves were mostly around 50c/kg behind the more numerous Angus lines.

The top of the weaner steers made $1,460/head for 23 Angus weighed at 399kg or 366c/kg. Angus steers over 330kg averaged 326c/kg and $1,150/head. A large selection of Angus steers from 280kg to 330kg averaged 315c/kg and $948/head. The top of the weaner heifers made $1,040/head for 18 Charolais weighed at 339kg or 307c/kg. Angus heifers from 280kg to 330kg averaged 245c/kg and $741/head. The top of the yearling steers made $1,880/head for 11 Herefords weighed at 586kg or 321c/kg. The top of the yearling heifers made $1,260/head for 18 Angus weighed at 409kg or 308c/kg.
